The scope of work comprises of Construction of 500 seat theatre & music library (approximate area of 12,675 m2) with 3 storied, car parks with 263 parking spaces (approximately 4,961 m2) including structural steel/ aluminium overhead bridge to interconnect proposed theatre building with existing Souq
The building is approximately 12,675 square metres and has a 500-seat theatre as well as a special music library. To the side of the main building, a three storey car park, containing 263 vehicles with a gross floor area of approximately 4,961 m², was constructed to provide parking for attendees of shows and events. The bridge is one of the most important components of the project. It is constructed of steel and aluminium and leads to the new theatre from the nearby old Souq. The bridge will provide a pedestrian connection between the old and new Muscat, allowing for seamless access and mobility between the two areas. The construction of the new building was a challenging task, as it needed to be designed in a way that would allow for safe access and communication between the existing building and the new one.It was important to plan the construction of the new building carefully, as it had to be designed to fit into an existing building that was still in use.
Daan Shaaban was responsible for the budget and paper work for this project, which included cost control and administration of the contracts. As disagreements or changes arose, which is often in a project that involves both new and old buildings, our team contributed to the resolution of such issues in a fair and clear manner. We also inspected the building work at various stages to ensure that it was in accordance with the approved plans.
The ROHM Theatre is now a cultural landmark building that brings a modern performance space to a historic part of the city of Muscat. It illustrates the importance of tight scheduling and budgeting in a complex and special project.
